Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any other questions that aren’t listed here, please call 352 273 5792 or text 352 354 2542 and we will answer your questions!

Q: How many sessions are in the BESTYou program and how long is each session?

A: There are six (6) sessions in the program–one (1) each week. The sessions will last anywhere form 1-2 hours.

Q: What happens if I can’t commit to a six (6) week BESTYou program?

A: There is a condensed BEST You program that lasts only four (4) weeks instead of six (6). Sometimes the sessions will last longer, but the same material is covered.

Q: What do I need to bring to the sessions?

A: Nothing but an open mind! There is a book that can be used during the course, and you can take it home with you for reference if you’d like. We ask that you bring it to class each week, but if you don’t think you’ll use the book at home, you may give it to your facilitators to bring to each week’s session.

Q: Will there be homework?

A: No, and no required reading either. All work will be completed within the sessions.

Q: Where and when are the sessions held?

A: That’s up to the host! The group leaders will bring everything to you during the weekdays or weekends, and at whatever hours the host sets. If you need to contact a group leader outside of the session, that’s okay too. Their contact information will be given at the beginning of session one.

Q: What is a host?

A: A host is the person or clinic or agency that has organized who will attend the BEST You sessions and where/when the sessions will be held. A host’s facility can be their home, their clinic, their agency’s break or conference room, their community center or church.

Q: What is covered in the sessions?

A: Topics such as, reading a food label, how to talk to your healthcare providers, effective communication and problem solving, stress management, cheap and easy ways to exercise, financial planning and budgeting and many more!

Q: What if someone has kids that need childcare?

A: Bring them! We have a BESTYou Jr. program that touches on the same material as BESTYou but in a kid-friendly way. We will provide an extra group leader who is trained to conduct BESTYou Jr. for your kids.

Q: What if I want to be a host, but I’m┬ánot sure if my facility is good enough?

A: The facilitators are more than happy to make a trip to check out the facility you’re considering to host at. They will let you know if it will work!

Q: What happens at the end of the program?

A: Each participant receives a certificate, and has the opportunity to become a Community Advocate and facilitate their own BESTYou course! Training and compensation would be provided to those that are interested.

Q: How can I get a BEST You program started where I am?

A: Please reach out to the program coordinator via email, telephone or this website. Call 352 273 5792, call/text 352 354 2542, email lizleja@ufl.edu OR go the sign-up tab for guests and enter the appropriate information. Someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
