moneyIn the Finance Section, we present a host of indicators that together give an idea of the financial status of individuals living in different neighborhoods. Some of the markers we explore are the number of citizens using public assistance programs such as cash assistance and SNAP benefits, the number of births to mothers on Medicaid, and the number of elderly living below the federal poverty line. By showing a variety of indicators, we avoid identifying student-dense communities as economically disadvantaged due to their low income. Although college student incomes are low, they seldom use public assistance programs.
